Artist Talks: Chris Kircher + Katja v. Ruville

Besuchen Sie unsere Künstergespräche mit Chris Kircher und Katja v. Ruville. | Please join us for artist talks by Chris Kircher and Katja v. Ruville.

:::

Beginning at 4:00 pm, Chris Kircher will discuss the evolution of her practice in working with scrap metal. She welds small steel plates together from previously deformed pieces of scrap metal. The surface of her sculptures retains the charm of variegation and a structural diversity of old iron. In this exhibition she shows abstract and representational sculptures, as well as paintings from her new series, "meeting the unconscious."

Then at 5:00 pm, Katja v. Ruville will discuss how she has started to explore her main themes of vulnerability and imperfection through porcelain. In the series leaving traces she pushes her work as a sculptor one step further by presenting delicate drawings on flat tiles and objects. In addition, she will discuss a large version of her 2014 installation "sorg" in grassgrün’s garden.

Artist Talks: Kelly O'Brien + Claudia Grom

Besuchen Sie unsere Künstlergespräche mit Kelly O'Brien und Claudia Grom | Please join us for artist talks by Kelly O'Brien and Claudia Grom.

:::

Beginning at 3:00 pm, American artist Kelly O'Brien will discuss her exploration of English country living since her departure from Germany in 2014. Geography and surroundings continue to play important roles in her work. Her latest series, "New Country," broaches this most recent relocation through encounters with cows, sheep and chickens. Rather than remain superficial, the paintings address themes of dissociation, denial, and living with integrity in the face of complex issues. Kelly's talk will be in English.

Then at 4:00 pm, Claudia Grom will discuss her project, Human Perspectives, which makes a stop in Germany. Freilandsicherung | OpenLand Security is the provocative theme of her latest videos and installations. She creates an atmosphere of emotional and political distress to physical danger. Confronted with increasing terrorist attacks, violent assaults and recent decisions about the European refugee policy, her work raises questions about threatening situations. The concepts originated during her travels throughout South Africa, Mauritius, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan, among others.
